How can I foster a dog?

Although adopting a dog can be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make not everybody is ready to take on the responsibility.  Fostering a dog here in Cyprus is a chance to see whether you are ready to have a new addition to your family.  Fostering gives the dogs an opportunity to become socialized to a home environment (many have been living outside and tied up all their lives with minimal human contact) and prepares them for their future forever home. 

Please note that fostering a dog is only available in Cyprus.

  • You’ll never be bored! There is always things to do with your foster friend from cuddling to playing fetch.


  • Fostering is an opportunity to try out different types of dogs, and what it’s like to have one if you’re not sure if you are ready to commit forever.

  •  Having a dog in your home is well known for having a beneficial effect on your health and wellbeing.

  • Preparing a pet for adoption by giving your love, time, and friendship is a very rewarding feeling.

Why do we need foster support?

  • Adopted Dogs that are waiting to fly to their forever home.

  • Puppies that are very vulnerable to getting sick or bullied.

​

  • Dogs that struggle to find a home due to old age, have some type of disability, or are on long term medication.

​

  • Dogs that are in very bad condition.  They need a loving Foster home to regain their confidence in humans and encouragement to begin eating normally again.

  • Pregnant, nursing and post-natal dogs that need a quiet and caring environment.


  • Dogs that need medication more often than can be undertaken in the Pound.

Home checks are carried out before dogs are placed in a foster home.

Please Note that when a dog from the Paralimni Dog Pound goes to a Foster home, a new space is available for another abused or abandoned dog.
